Now, I actually was wondering prior to reading this why it was that I had only ever had one female gamer play in the Traveller game I ran and she only stayed a night. In the book itself there is only one, that is right ONE image of a female that I am not embarrassed to see. From ugly to normal to handsome in a variety of poses. EVERY image of a female in this book is of a buxom, scantily clad temptress. Do not get me wrong, the art is well formed but it is the context of the art. In short, it is the artwork that I find so bad that I will never touch it again. This game actually makes me a little uneasy in calling myself a gamer. The rules that I got to read were good and the writing was good but I will likely never look at this book again except to write this post so I can illustrate my point. I will be sticking with CT and steering clear of any further products that are associated with Mongoose. Well, I can officially report that I could not make it through the book. But then a couple of weeks back I decided to do the front to back read of the game and fill the internet with how wonderful it was in my own way. Some of the material that I had seen for this version of the game was impressive and the bits and pieces that I was selectively gleaning from the material made a lot of sense. It has taken me around 6 months to start into it and I was quite looking forward to the read. Lo and behold that within a few months it went on special in DriveThru RPG and so I picked it up. Well, I was happy with CT but I made a mental note that if were to ever see a copy of MgT on eBay or elsewhere cheaply I would pick it up and read it. I was told by quite a few people that have played Traveller with me that Mongoose Traveller (or MgT) is the version that most people play with a bit of cross over to Classic Traveller (CT).
I imagine that I am not going to make too many friends with this post but I feel strongly enough about this that I have to come out and say it. It doesn't contain any setting information as far as I know. The version of the game that I will be playing Not as gorgeous as the Mongoose version, but playable and cheaper. Cephus Deluxe is Classic Traveller with the numbers filed of, basically a retro clone + minor improvements. However, for being a contemporary of OD&D (the three little brown books, if you will) it holds up surprisingly well. The game is dated and it shows sometimes. You can find get as a POD from DTRPG for arround $20. If you want to do some archeology of the hobby, get the Traveller book which consolidates the orginal 3 little black books into a single hardcover. If you want to play the game, get the Mongoose version. Any "rounded RPG library" should comprise at least one edition. Traveller is a classic and very much old school in it's own right (I'd include Traveller in my OSR but the D&D folks disagree).
TRAVELLER RPG ARTWORK FREE
There is a free version which has 95% of what you want from SWN anyway. Even if you end up playing another system, SWN is worth getting for the random tables alone. SWN is OD&D with a boltet on skill system an tons of random tables for sandbox play.
Click to expand.I'd say Stars Without Number is problably more Space OSR than Traveller.
